Patricia Bauman is the daughter of Lionel Bauman, the original funder of the Bauman Family Foundation (BFF). She has been the president and co-director of that foundation since its inception in 1987.
A graduate of Radcliffe College and the Columbia University School of Public Health, Patricia Bauman received her J.D. degree from the Georgetown University Law Center and is a member of the Bar in the District of Columbia.
In addition to her duties with BFF, Bauman serves as a board member of the Natural Resources Defense Council, a board of trustees member of the Beldon Fund, a board member (along with Harold Ickes) of Catalist, a board of directors member of the Brennan Center for Justice, a board member of the Montefiore Medical Center in New York, and a board member of the Trust for America’s Health.
Bauman is also a “partner” of the Democracy Alliance (DA), a funding clearinghouse for progressive organizations. Among her fellow DA partners are these.
In past years, Bauman was a manager with the National Institute for Environmental Health Sciences, a member of the Pew Environmental Health Commission, and a Health and Environment Advisory Board member with the National Environmental Education & Training Foundation.
During her tenure as a major funder of the Left, Bauman, apart from the many grants she has authorized through her family foundation, has personally made scores of financial contributions to leftwing political candidates, political organizations, and activist groups. Some of the many individual recipients of her donations are: Sherrod Brown, Hillary Clinton, Howard Dean, John Edwards, Sam Farr, Russell Feingold, Al Gore, Tom Harkin, John Kerry, Kweisi Mfume, Patty Murray, Barack Obama, Jay Rockefeller, Ken Salazar, Charles Schumer, Joe Sestak, and Tom Udall. Organizational beneficiaries of Bauman’s funding include America Coming Together, Democracy for America, the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee, the DNC Services Corporation, EMILY’s List, the League of Conservation Voters, and the Sierra Club.
