The H.W. Buckner Charitable Residuary Trust (HWBCRT) was principally a funder and promoter of radical environmentalist groups. It also earmarked some of its philanthropy for social services, education and youth projects in Rhode Island, and the World Music Institute, which “encourages cultural exchange between nations and ethnic groups.”
Among the organizations supported by Buckner were the Humane Society of the United States, the Midwest Academy, the National Wildlife Federation, the Natural Resources Defense Council, the Nature Conservancy, the Rainforest Action Network, the Trust for Public Land, the Union of Concerned Scientists, and the Wilderness Society.
