Documentary filmmaker Michael Moore‘s latest movie opened to box office disaster over its first weekend, raking in an unimpressive $3.1 million.
Fahrenheit 11/9, which sought to do to President Trump what his 2004 documentary Fahrenheit 9/11 did to President George W. Bush following the 9/11 attacks in 2001, took in $3.1 million in 1,719 cinemas — better than the average documentary but a fraction of the $23.9 million opening of Moore’s earlier effort. Fahrenheit 9/11 went on to bring in a documentary record-setting $222.4 million worldwide.
Moore has declared that he would leave the country to avoid any “persecution” from Trump over the film.
