Overview

* The Interfaith Alliance (IA) opposes school voucher plans that enable the parents of children who attend failing, crime-ridden, inner-city public schools, to send their youngsters instead to private institutions where they might have a better chance of succeeding academically. Asserting that “public funds should not go to private religious schools or to any educational institutions that may discriminate against students and teachers based on religion,” IA boasts that it “has a long history of fighting … to ensure that voucher programs for sectarian schools are eliminated, not expanded.”

* The president of the Interfaith Alliance is Jack Moline, who holds the title of Rabbi Emeritus of Agudas Achim Congregation in Alexandria, Virginia, where he served for 27 years. Rabbi Moline is also an adjunct faculty member of the Jewish Theological Seminary and the Virginia Theological Seminary.

  • In addition, Moline has served as chair of the Interfaith Relations Committee of the Jewish Council for Public Affairs; vice president of the Washington-Baltimore Rabbinical Assembly; a board member of the Faith and Politics Institute; an advisory board member of Clergy Beyond Borders and Operation Understanding DC; president of the Washington Board of Rabbis; and chair of the Alexandria Interfaith Association.
  • Moreover, Rabbi Moline advised President Bill Clinton on international affairs and the president’s personal moral challenges during the Monica Lewinsky scandal. Moline was also invited to offer a blessing to the families of Barack Obama and Joe Biden before the 2013 presidential inauguration.
