* The Interfaith Alliance (IA) opposes school voucher plans that enable the parents of children who attend failing, crime-ridden, inner-city public schools, to send their youngsters instead to private institutions where they might have a better chance of succeeding academically. Asserting that “public funds should not go to private religious schools or to any educational institutions that may discriminate against students and teachers based on religion,” IA boasts that it “has a long history of fighting … to ensure that voucher programs for sectarian schools are eliminated, not expanded.”
* The president of the Interfaith Alliance is Jack Moline, who holds the title of Rabbi Emeritus of Agudas Achim Congregation in Alexandria, Virginia, where he served for 27 years. Rabbi Moline is also an adjunct faculty member of the Jewish Theological Seminary and the Virginia Theological Seminary.
* Additional past winners of the Interfaith Alliance’s Walter Cronkite Faith & Freedom Award include Rev. Joan Brown Campbell, Rev. Chriss Doss, Rep. Chet Edwards, Rev. James Forbes, Rep. Amo Houghton, Governor Tom Kean, Jawad Khaki, Rabbi Irwin Kula, Rev. James Miller, Judith Moyers, author/public speaker Asra Nomani, Kusum Patel, and Judy Shepard.
