* Each year since 2000, EII’s New Leaders Initiative has presented its Brower Youth Awards to six young people whose efforts to promote environmental “sustainability” are deemed particularly outstanding. Each recipient also receives a $3,000 cash prize; is the subject of a professionally made featurette film profiling his/her environmental efforts; and is provided with valuable coaching, funding information, and networking opportunities throughout ensuing year.

* Administered in conjunction with Greenpeace and the Sierra Club, EII’s “Greenwash Action” project promotes the U.S. Green Building Council’s Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) standards for “green building certification.” But in practice, LEED buildings have proven to be no more energy-efficient than their conventional counterparts.
