Overview

After a 19-year-old gunman killed fourteen students and three teachers at a Parkland, Florida high school in February 2018, Barragán went to the House floor to deliver a speech advocating a ban on AR-15-style rifles and high-capacity magazines. She also joined 164 House Democrats in co-sponsoring the Assault Weapons Ban of 2018. “Assault weapons are weapons of war and have no place in our neighborhoods, our schools, or civilian life,” said the congresswoman. “Since the original Assault Weapons Ban expired, we have seen more and more mass-shootings using these tools of destruction. We have to restore common sense and ban these weapons in order to protect our children, our families, and our communities.”
