Overview


* Between 2010 and 2012, Alawa served as a research assistant on various projects at Tufts University, Wellesley College, and the MIT Sloan School of Management. In these positions, she studied such topics as “the obstacles that women science leaders face” and “perceptions and the formation of stereotypes and prejudice.”

* Alawa served as a Deborah Blumer fellow for the Massachusetts Women’s Political Caucus (2012); a research intern for The Pluralism Project (2013); an associate producer with PBS (2013); a laboratory manager/research associate at Princeton University (2012-14); a social media associate with the Unity Productions Foundation (2013-14); a media relations director with the American Muslim Consumer Consortium (2014); a communications associate with Karamah: Muslim Women Lawyers for Human Rights (2014-15); a marketing and communications specialist with LaunchGood (2014-15); a marketing strategist with PushBrand Marketing (2014-15); a fellow with GovLoop (2015); and a secondary investigator with the Institute for Social Policy and Understanding, where she sought ways to create “greater American Muslim representation” in American politics (2015-16).

* In 2015, Alwawa’s work was published in the literary anthology Faithfully Feminist: Jewish, Christian and Muslim Feminists on Why We Stay. In November 2015 Alawa was featured in The New York Times‘ “Women in the World” section. Moreover, she has appeared on such media outlets as Al-Jazeera America, BBC World News, National Public Radio, and Huffington Post Live.
