● Over the course of his professional career, Beinin has held teaching positions at numerous colleges and universities:

  • 1979-83: Assistant Librarian in the Near East Division of the University of Michigan’s Graduate Library
  • 1982: Lecturer at the University of Michigan’s Center for Near Eastern and North African Studies
  • 1982-83: Instructor in Henry Ford Community College’s Division of Social Sciences
  • 1983-90: Assistant Professor of History at Stanford University
  • Fall 1989: Senior Associate Member at St. Antony’s College (Oxford)
  • 1990-96: Associate Professor of History at Stanford University
  • 1996-Present: Professor of History at Stanford University (except during 2006-08, when he took an “extended leave”)
  • 1995-99: Director of Stanford University’s Program in Modern Thought and Literature
  • Fall 2001: Sultan Visiting Professor of Middle East Studies at UC Berkeley
  • 2004-05: Visiting Research Fellow at American University in Cairo; Researcher at the Al-Ahram Center for Political and Strategic Studies
  • 2006-08: Director of Middle East Studies and Professor of History at American University in Cairo
  • 2013: Visiting Scholar at Portland State University
