Abudayyeh was a plaintiff in an unsuccessful federal lawsuit [in 2001] “challenging the constitutionality of a nearly 80-year-old Chicago ordinance prohibiting the wearing of masks except during celebrations.” Abudayyeh “told reporters he was ‘horribly offended’ by the ordinance and ‘the arbitrary way’ it had been enforced by the city.”
