Overview

* In 2007, Moore, who strongly opposed America’s involvement in the Iraq War, was one of 90 Members of Congress who formed a Peace Pledge Coalition that stated in an open letter to President Bush: “We will only support appropriating funds for U.S. military operations in Iraq during Fiscal Year 2008 and beyond for the protection and safe redeployment of all our troops out of Iraq before you leave office.” The letter was initiated by such notables as Medea Benjamin, Kevin Zeese, and representatives of AfterDowningStreet.org, the Backbone Campaign, the Center for Labor Renewal, Democracy Rising, Democrats.com, the Progressive Democrats of America, Velvet Revolution, and Voters for Peace.

* In September 2010, Moore placed into the Congressional Record a tribute to her “dear friend” and “mentor,” the recently deceased socialist civil-rights and anti-war activist Dismas Becker. In May 2011 she similarly honored the recently deceased Communist Party USA member John Gilman as a “friend” and a “true patriot” who, she explained with great admiration, “refused to testify or implicate anyone else” when he “was twice called before the House Un-American Activities Committee [in the 1950s] for his involvement in organizations deemed to be Communist.”

* In November 2012, Moore was a member of the host committee for “Leading with Love,” an event celebrating the fifth anniversary of the Marxist-led National Domestic Workers Alliance.
