* Carol Keehan is a representative to the International Federation of Catholic Health Care Associations of the Pontifical Council for Pastoral Health Care. In addition, she has been a member of several health, labor, and domestic policy committees of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops.
* Keehan serves on the finance committee of the Archdiocese of Washington.
* On December 22, 2010, Keehan issued a statement supporting St. Joseph Hospital and Medical Center, a Catholic facility in Phoenix, for its decision to allow a 27-year-old pregnant woman with pulmonary hypertension to undergo an abortion — purportedly to save her own life. By contrast, the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) opposed the hospital’s decision. Mercy Sister Margaret McBride, the director of St. Joseph’s Hospital, was excommunicated for her role in approving the abortion.
