Overview

  • Coalition of leftist environmental and social justice organizations

Founded in 2002, the Southern Oregon Progressive Network (SOPN) is a coalition of grassroots organizations and individuals that advocate on behalf of radical environmentalism and a leftist vision of social justice. SOPN is sponsored by Headwaters, a litigious environmentalist group that has initiated numerous lawsuits against loggers, farmers, developers, and pest controllers.

SOPN is heavily financed by the Beldon Fund. Among SOPN’s member organizations are: the Alliance for Sustainable Jobs & the Environment; the Ecology Center of the Siskiyous; Friends of Living Oregon Waters; Headwaters; the Klamath Siskiyou Wildlands Center; Oregon Action; Oregon State Public Interest Research Group; Peace House; the Siskiyou Field Institute; Southern Oregon ANSWER (a local chapter of the Marxist-Leninist International A.N.S.W.E.R.); the Southern Oregon Land Conservancy; the Southern Oregon University Women’s Resource Center; Unete al Movimiento de Conciencia Popular; and WaterWatch.
