Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer’s ban on most residential construction during the coronavirus shutdown led to a 44% decline in the state’s construction jobs, according to Breitbart News.
Michigan’s 22.7% jobless rate is the highest in the state since 1976 and and the 2nd highest unemployment rate in the nation.
Whitmer’s draconian lockdown order on March 24 deemed certain construction permissible, such as construction to maintain and improve roads, bridges, telecommunications infrastructure, and public health infrastructure. However, “non-emergency maintenance or improvements to residences are not permitted.” That led to construction jobs in Michigan falling by 44% in April, compared to the national average of 13%.
Refusing to let a crisis go to waste, petty Democrat tyrants like Whitmer have seized upon the coronavirus pandemic to gut the American economy in order to weaken President Trump at the polls in November. It won’t work, but meanwhile millions of Americans are collateral damage of the left’s lust for power.
