Whitmer Eases Restaurant Restrictions After Inauguration

January 25, 2021

Tyrannical Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer announced on Friday that she would be easing the draconian restaurant restrictions in her state, “coincidentally” only two days after Joe Biden was sworn in as president.

After returning from the festivities in Washington, DC, Whitmer said restaurants could reopen to in-person dining on February 1. “The pause has worked,” Whitmer claimed of the original “three week pause” announced 13 weeks ago. “The efforts we have made together to protect our families, frontline workers and hospitals have dramatically reduced cases and we have saved lives. Now, we are confident that starting Feb. 1, restaurants can resume indoor dining with safety measures in place.”

Whitmer will allow restaurants to operate at a whopping 25% capacity and stadiums can seat up to 500 people. Tables must remain six feet apart with no more than six people per table, and restaurants and bars must close at 10:00 p.m. Presumably she thinks Michiganders should be grateful for this crumb of freedom.

Nearly 3,000 Michigan restaurants have gone out of business over Whitmer’s orders.

Meanwhile, in response to criticism that she broke her own coronavirus lockdown rules by attending the inauguration, Whitmer responded — without an iota of irony or self-awareness — “I have been following the same directives I have asked everyone else to. I can’t stand those people that have one rule for others and a different one for themselves.”
