Warren: I Will Criminalize ‘Digital Disinformation’ in Elections

January 31, 2020

In a Medium post published Wednesday, presidential hopeful Elizabeth Warren announced a plan to “impose tough civil and criminal penalties” for disseminating false information related to U.S. elections.

“Disinformation erodes our democracy, and Democrats must have a plan to address it,” Warren wrote, falsely claiming that President Trump “welcomed foreign interference in our elections, inviting interference from a host of countries that have an interest in the outcome, including Iran and China.”

“In both the 2016 and 2018 elections, online disinformation sought to depress voter turnout by telling people they could vote via text, giving people the wrong date for election day, and more,” she continued. “I will push for new laws that impose tough civil and criminal penalties for knowingly disseminating this kind of information, which has the explicit purpose of undermining the basic right to vote.”

If Warren really wants to combat efforts to undermine elections, she could address massive Democrat voter fraud.
