Rep. Ilhan Omar admitted to being unsure about the details in a story of supposed “injustice” she told to a group of students during her time as a Minneapolis city councilman five years ago.
The Washington Post reported Monday that a story Omar told 400 students at Richfield High School in Minneapolis, about an elderly black woman jailed for stealing a loaf of bread to feed her hungry granddaughter, echoed the plot of Les Miserables. Also, non-violent shoplifters with clean records are not jailed.
WaPo suggested Omar “may have flubbed some facts.” When confronted about her story, Omar said the woman “might have had a prior [arrest], I’m not sure… The details might not have all matched, but that’s what I remember.”
