On Monday, former entertainer Barbra Streisand shared a link on Twitter to a New York Times op-ed titled “Trump Is the Founders’ Worst Nightmare,” claimeding they envisioned impeachment to counter the threat of presidents like Trump, who “aspires to be a despot.”
The article she cites suggests Trump is a demagogue with “perverted ambition,” and that the Founders, whom Democrats only revere when it suits their agenda, designed impeachment for just such a man.
“From his blatant attempt to extort Ukraine using taxpayer money for a fake investigation of his political rival, there is [no] question that Trump aspires to be a despot, and impeachment is the sober process envisioned by the Founders to counter such a threat,” Streisand tweeted.
Far from being “blatant,” there is zero evidence Trump attempted to extort the Ukrainian president. And Democrats have turned “the sober process” of impeachment into a sham and a politicized circus.
