Streisand: Electoral College an Assault on Democratic Principles

September 5, 2019

In a Washington Post article on what the Constitution represents to notable Progressives, former entertainer Barbra Streisand complained that the Electoral College is an “assault on our democratic principles.”

“The 14th Amendment of our Constitution actualized what many of the Founders wanted, promoting equal protection under the law for all Americans,” Streisand said. “If I could, I would end the antiquated electoral college. Twice in the last 20 years the popular vote winner was denied the presidency. This is an assault on our democratic principles, where the dictum should hold true: one person, one vote.”

The Democrats have been demanding an end to the electoral college ever since Hillary Clinton lost to Donald Trump in 2016 despite winning the popular vote (if widespread Democrat voter fraud were factored in, Trump likely would have won that too).

The Founding Fathers wisely established America as a constitutional republic, not a democracy, in order to prevent the kind of mob rule Streisand prefers.
