Schumer: There Aren’t Enough GOP Votes to Pass Gun Control

May 26, 2022

Breitbart News reports that on Wednesday Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) put the brakes on holding a quick gun control vote in the Senate, making clear a vote on more gun restrictions will have to wait.

Initially, Schumer wanted to clear the way to force votes on legislation that would strengthen background checks for gun purchasers, but then informed his Democrat colleagues that a vote would have to wait because there are not enough Republican votes to get anything passed.

“There are some who want this body to quickly vote on sensible gun safety legislation, legislation supported by the vast majority of Americans,” Schumer said. “They want to see this body vote quickly so the American people can know which side each senator is on. … I’m sympathetic to that, and I believe that accountability votes are important.

“Sadly,” he added, “this isn’t a case of the American people now knowing where their senators stand. They know. They know because my Republican colleagues are perfectly clear on this issue. Crystal clear.”

Yes, the Republicans clearly want to take action that will actually help prevent school shootings, which more gun legislation will not do. Schumer and his colleagues don’t care about that because their aim is not to prevent shootings but to move toward gun confiscation and the repeal of the Second Amendment.
