In his two-hour opening argument in the Senate impeachment trial on Wednesday, House Intelligence Chairman Adam Schiff steered the focus back toward the debunked Democrat conspiracy theory of Russian election collusion in 2016, referring to the words “Russia,” “Russian,” or “Russians” over 30 times.
As reported by Breitbart News, Schiff also repeatedly claimed that President Trump had continued to back Russian President Vladimir Putin over Ukraine and accused the president of spreading Russian lies about Ukraine meddling in the 2016 election.
He declared that Trump had “embraced Russian activity and disinformation” rather than standing by the United States’ allies in Ukraine. “The United States aids Ukraine and the people so that we can fight Russia over there and we don’t have to fight Russia here,” he said.
Speaking from the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, President Trump called both Schiff and his impeachment colleague Jerry Nadler “major sleazebags. They’re very dishonest people.”
