Campaigning in Minneapolis, Minnesota, Sunday night, presidential contender Bernie Sanders spewed all the Left’s standard, hateful slurs at President Trump.
Trump is, Sanders declared, “a president who is a racist, who is a sexist, who is a xenophobe, a homophobe, and a religious bigot. This is a president who is trying to divide us up based on the color of our skin, where we were born, our sexual orientation, or our religion.”
This ugly, false rhetoric is typical of Sanders, who tweeted similarly last month that Trump is a “a racist, a sexist and a xenophobe. Despite all of that, he will be a very formidable opponent.” He added that, “[t]o win, we have got to create the largest voter turnout in the history of the country.”
To rally that turnout, Sanders knows it’s not enough to challenge Trump’s achievements or debate his policies. Instead, he must demonize Trump and his supporters as white supremacists. It’s the left’s go-to strategy: the politics of personal destruction.
