Senator Bernie Sanders (Ind. – Vt) said on Monday that he plans to introduce a bill in Congress this week that would raise the federal minimum wage to $15 per hour.
“The federal minimum wage of $7.25 is a starvation wage,” Sanders wrote on Twitter. “That is why I, along with many other members of Congress, will introduce legislation this week to raise that wage to $15 an hour. If you work 40 hours a week, you should not live in poverty.”
The bill is expected to come as the government shutdown enters its fourth week.
