Thursday on MSNBC’s The Rachel Maddow Show, Biden senior adviser Cedric Richmond claimed that Republicans who defend against the Democrat gun-grabbing agenda “have hid [sic] behind the Second Amendment for far too long.”
“Republicans and NRA have hid [sic] behind the Second Amendment for far too long. When the Second Amendment was written, people were stuffing gunpowder into a musket to shoot,” said Richmond, who is not a smart man. “Now you have guns that can shoot 100 rounds in a minute, and that’s just completely different. These are weapons of war. They’re weapons of mass destruction. They have no place on the streets of America. We have a president now who will call out all of those who oppose safe neighborhoods, safe streets, and stopping the carnage on the streets of America.”
Fact checks: weapons of war and weapons of mass destruction are already banned. Handguns and AR-15s are neither. Democrats are not truly interested in stopping the carnage on the streets of America; they are committed to exerting control over law-abiding gun owners. Also, the Second Amendment does not specify that Americans are allowed only muskets. It asserts that government does not have the right to deprive Americans of their right to arm themselves against tyranny.
Richmond added, “I think Republicans are either going to move with the times, or the voting population will move them out.”
False. Democrats are either going to have to abide by the Constitution, or the armed voting populace will move them out — one way or another.
