Former filmmaker, All in the Family “Meathead,” and current unhinged anti-Trump fear-monger Rob Reiner took to Twitter on Wednesday demanding that the Senate convict former President Trump, whom he smeared as “the new leader of the Confederacy” in “our continuing Civil War.”
“Our original sin is at the the root of our continuing Civil War. Donald Trump, the new leader of the Confederacy, heads the Sedition,” Reiner tweeted. “If he is not held accountable with a Senate conviction, there will be no Appomattox” — the site of Robert E. Lee’s surrender to Union Gen. Grant in 1865.
Reiner’s not wrong that the United States is in a new, ongoing Civil War, but his accusation that Trump leads a racist “sedition” akin to the Confederacy is a grotesque, shameful lie — one that he and his Hollywood compatriots (and the Democrats as a whole) have pushed relentlessly.
Social media demagogue Reiner has repeated his “sedition” smear from the safety of his computer keyboard before, tweeting recently that “Any members of Congress that doesn’t support Impeachment and Removal of this President supports Sedition,” and tweeting in past months that Trump is a cult leader and “killer” with “100s of thousands” of American deaths on his hands.
