Pope: Add ‘the Sin Against Ecology’ to Catholic Teaching

November 19, 2019

Addressing a group of lawyers in an international conference on penal law Friday, Pope Francis said he is considering introducing the category of “ecological sin” into official Catholic teaching.

“We must introduce – we are thinking about it – in the Catechism of the Catholic Church the sin against ecology, the ecological sin against the common home, because it is a duty,” the pope stated. “Ecocide,” he declared, constitutes a “a fifth category of crimes against peace, which should be recognized as such by the international community.”

Pope Francis added that such “crimes” are “usually” committed by corporations, and “an elementary sense of justice would require” that they be punished for them. “It is a sin against future generations and is manifested in acts and habits of pollution and destruction of the harmony of the environment…”

As if anyone needed further proof, this is dubious theology is another example of the current pope’s Progressive worldview and social justice agenda.
