A recent CBS/YouGov poll shows that over one-third of Democrat voters do not want former first lady Michelle Obama to be the running mate of presumptive presidential nominee Joe Biden, even if she wanted to be (which she has repeatedly insisted she does not).
The poll reveals that 65% of Democrats favor Obama as Biden’s choice if she were to accept an offer, but an eyebrow-raising 35% say they oppose her. Among black respondents, 70% approve a Biden-Obama ticket, with 30% opposing. Independent voters overall support her as Biden’s running mate, 60% to 40%.
A committee called “Draft Michelle Obama” said in a statement, “Joe Biden has said he would choose Michelle Obama as his running mate ‘in a heartbeat.’ The aim of this campaign is to build on the substantial grassroots support for a potential Michelle Obama candidacy and help garner media attention for a [VP] nominee who has the power to beat Donald Trump.”
That’s because they know Biden isn’t enough to beat Trump on his own merits and popularity.
