A Change.org online petition demanding the resignation of World Health Organization (WHO) chief Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus over his mishandling of the coronavirus has garnered over a million signatures as of Friday morning.
“We strongly think Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus is not fit for his role as WHO director general. We call for the immediate resignation of Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus,” states the petition titled, “Call for the resignation of Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, WHO Director-General,” which was launched January 31 by an anonymous Taiwan activist with the alias “Osuka Yip.”
“The W.H.O. pushed China’s misinformation about the virus, saying it was not communicable and there was no need for travel bans,” President Trump has said of Tedros and his organization.
On January 14, months after health officials detected the first case of the virus in China, the WHO was still pushing the Chinese claim that there was “no clear evidence of human-to-human transmission.”
