Pelosi: Trump Encouraging ‘Vigilantes’ Makes Things Worse

August 26, 2020

In a telephone call organized by the Biden campaign on Wednesday, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi accused President Trump of encouraging “vigilantes” to make situations worse in cities ravaged by rioting.

“What we saw in Kenosha breaks your heart; it does pierce the soul, as was said,” Pelosi told reporters. “But the encouragement that the president, the acquiescence if not more than that, that he gives to vigilantes coming in to make matters worse in these situations is something the president should be quelling rather than encouraging.”

Pelosi was referring to a 17-year-old who shot 3 rioters in a clear case of self-defense in Kenosha, Wisconsin.

She added, “We’re not about rioting and destroying of property.” Yet not a single Democrat leader has denounced the violent rioting sweeping the nation, nor have they spoken out to “quell rather than encourage” that violence. Instead, Pelosi warns Trump that “vigilantes” — by which she means citizens defending themselves against rioters — should be “quelled.”
