On Tuesday after the verdict in the Derek Chauvin trial was announced, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi grotesquely thanked criminal George Floyd for “sacrificing” his life for the cause of racial justice in America.
“Thank you, George Floyd—for sacrificing your life for justice,” Pelosi said. “For being there, to call out to your mom—how, how heartbreaking was that? Call out for your mom. ‘I can’t breathe,’” she added.
Fact check: Floyd was high on a literally lethal cocktail of drugs, including fentanyl, which killed him — not murder. He began claiming “I can’t breathe” even before police officer Chauvin restrained him. Evidence was produced at the trial showing that Floyd suffered no suffocation under Chauvin’s restraint.
Pelosi continued, “But because of you and because of thousands, millions of people around the world, who came out for justice, your name will always be synonymous with justice.”
Apart from the offensive spectacle of wealthy, white Democrat Pelosi thanking a black American for dying, the claim that Floyd’s name “will always be synonymous with justice” is sickening. No Democrat would ever think to thank a black police officer like David Dorn, who literally did give his life for justice while attempting to stop a robbery, and honor his name as synonymous with justice — because Dorn’s death couldn’t be weaponized politically. So his black life didn’t matter.
