Pelosi on Tearing Down Statues: Let’s ‘Do It In a Safer Way’

June 26, 2020

Thursday in an interview with the Washington Post, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said that instead of the current leftist trend of icon-busting sweeping the country, we should take statues down “safely.”

Asked if “art depicting slave owners, including our nation’s Founding Fathers,” should come down, Pelosi replied, “Are you talking about the patriarch of our country George Washington, the author of our Declaration of Independence, Thomas Jefferson? No. I don’t think they should come down…

“I would say, rather than tearing down and defacing, why don’t we just have a review? Have a review in terms of, let’s take it down safely so that we’re not hurting anybody when the statue comes down… But I think that — I’m all for it. Let’s review this. Why are we glorifying the sins of the past?”

Our statues don’t glorify the sins of the past. Review the statues? Why should we negotiate with Marxist revolutionaries about which statues are allowed? No, the statues stay. It’s the Marxists who must go.
