In a press conference Wednesday about her coronavirus bill, the HEROES Act, Nancy Pelosi said “every crisis” is an opportunity to advance the left’s agenda.
“We have to open the economy, we have to do so in a way that gives more opportunity for access to care, to credit, to opportunity,” House Speaker Pelosi said. “Just as Mr. Clyburn said, this is an opportunity, every crisis is,” she added, referring to U.S. House Majority Whip James Clyburn‘s comment prior to the first coronavirus relief bill in March that the bill was a “tremendous opportunity to restructure things to fit our vision.”
The House passed the HEROES Act in May, which many Dems acknowledge is more of a “policy wishlist” than a bill to assist Americans in the coronavirus pandemic. And yet Pelosi denies the act was partisan: “Nobody said that when Mitch McConnell put forth his bill.”
Democrats have been very open about their political opportunism during the pandemic. “You never want to let a serious crisis go to waste,”as Rahm Emanuel infamously put it.
