Former Rep. Robert Francis “Beto” O’Rourke (D-Texas) recorded his dental cleaning Thursday to highlight his hygienist’s experiences growing up near the U.S. border with Mexico.
“So I’m here at the dentist and we’re going to continue our series on the people of the border,” O’Rourke says in a video posted on Instagram as he receives a cleaning. O’Rourke then turns the camera on his hygienist, a permanent resident studying for her American citizenship, who recounts her time growing up near the southern border.
She said she was born in El Paso, her father was a U.S. citizen, and her mother was born in a small town in Mexico.
