Florida gubernatorial candidate Andrew Gillum claimed during Sunday night’s televised debate that he had “no idea” what opponent Ron DeSantis was referring to when referencing a pledge Gillum signed that supports a “radical manifesto.”
“Andrew signed a pledge with the Dream Defenders pledging his support, this radical manifesto,” DeSantis said.“I have no idea what pledge he is talking about,” Gillum replied.
In fact, Gillum did sign a pledge in June 2018 along with three other Democratic gubernatorial candidates supporting the Dream Defenders, a group that seeks to cultivate “a new generation” of young radical activists. He also has evidenced a close personal and professional relationship with the group and its co-founder, Phillip Agnew, who has said he considers Gillum “part of the movement.”
