Omar: Trump ‘Needs the Distraction’ of War with Iran

January 3, 2020

In the wake of U.S. drone strikes that took out top Iranian military leaders on Thursday, Muslim Rep. Ilhan Omar floated a conspiracy theory that President Trump “needs the distraction” of war with Iran, and she promised to “step in and stop” the President.

“So what if Trump wants war, knows this leads to war and needs the distraction?” Omar, a member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, tweeted. “Real question is, will those with congressional authority step in and stop him? I know I will.”

A statement released late Thursday by the Pentagon said Gen. Qassem Soleimani, the head of Iran’s elite Quds Force, “was actively developing plans to attack American diplomats and service members in Iraq and throughout the region.”  His assassination “was aimed at deterring future Iranian attack plans.”

Omar and her fellow anti-American Democrats are purposefully ignoring the fact that Trump’s strike was in retaliation for the Iranian-backed attacks on the U.S. Embassy in Baghdad earlier this week.
