Somali-born Rep. Ilhan Omar has once again drawn fire for an anti-Semitic remark — this time for commenting on an endorsement received by former New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg for president.
On Saturday, Omar responded to an article quoting billionaire hedge fund manager Leon Cooperman stating he would support Bloomberg’s 2020 White House bid. Both men are Jewish.
“I wonder why?” the Muslim Omar wrote on Twitter. Her suggestion was clear to many on social media, such as Michael Dickson, executive director of Stand with Us, an organization that fights anti-Semitism. “I suppose you think it’s all about the Benjamins,” he tweeted, referring to a previous Omar tweet stereotyping Jews as greedy. “We get your insinuation. True to form.”
Muslim anti-Israel activist Linda Sarsour predictably defended Omar, tweeting, “Oh for God’s sake, stop this ridiculousness. This obsession with every word Ilhan says or tweets is tired and it’s getting old.” As old as Jew-hatred itself.
