Muslim Rep. Ilhan Omar revealed Wednesday on Instagram that she secretly married Democrat political consultant Tim Mynett, her alleged lover with whom she had previously denied having an affair.
“Got married! From partners in politics to life partners, so blessed. Alhamdulillah,” Omar posted. Alhamdulillah means “praise be to God” in Arabic.
The National Legal and Policy Center alleged in a complaint filed with the FEC in August that Omar illegally used campaign money to help carry on an affair with Mynett, whose now-ex-wife claimed that he had confessed to the affair and then dumped her soon after.
Omar filed for divorce in October from her husband, Ahmed Hirsi, with whom Omar had filed taxes jointly in 2014 and 2015 despite being legally married at the time to another man, Ahmed Nur Said Elmi, who reportedly is her brother. Omar dismisses as bigotry suspicions that she committed immigration fraud by coming here under the surname of the family that brought her as a refugee.
