Rep. Ilhan Omar introduced a resolution in the House of Representatives Tuesday which supports the anti-Israel Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions (BDS) movement — and compares Israel to apartheid South Africa and Nazi Germany.
Omar’s resolution is an alternative to a bipartisan, non-binding pro-Israel resolution, H. Res. 246, which opposes the BDS movement, noting that it targets Jews and stokes hatred against Israel. Omar’s resolution, H. Res. 496, is co-sponsored by Reps. John Lewis and Rashida Tlaib. Both Omar and Tlaib have repeatedly made anti-Semitic statements which they refuse to retract or apologize for.
The resolution declares that Americans have the right to engage in boycotts against Israel, lumping the tiny Middle East democracy in with past evil regimes in apartheid South Africa and Nazi Germany.
