Ocasio-Cortez’s Campaign Shoes Donated to Exhibit

November 23, 2018

New York Rep.-elect Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is donating personal items to be enshrined in exhibits about her life, lending her campaign trail shoes to the Cornell Costume Collection exhibit.

The exhibit, entitled “WOMEN EMPOWERED: Fashions from the Frontline,” is a display of articles of clothing that made women “feel empowered.” Ocasio-Cortez’s contribution, slip-on shoes that look worn out and filled with holes, were pointed out on social media by the candidate as evidence that her election victory came from pounding the pavement.

“Here’s my 1st pair of campaign shoes,” she wrote in June about a pic of them posted on Twitter. “I knocked doors until rainwater came through my soles. Respect the hustle. We won bc we out-worked the competition. Period.”
