Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez essentially accused Nancy Pelosi of racism Wednesday, telling the Washington Post that the Speaker was guilty of “the explicit singling out of newly elected women of color.”
Ocasio-Cortez and Pelosi have been increasingly at odds over the “democratic socialist” newcomer’s more radical policies and positions. Pelosi has attempted to rein her in with public criticism and pleas for party unity.
“When these comments first started, I kind of thought that she was keeping the progressive flank at more of an arm’s distance in order to protect more moderate members, which I understood,” Ocasio-Cortez said. “But the persistent singling out… it got to a point where it was just outright disrespectful… the explicit singling out of newly elected women of color.”
