In a Twitter thread on Tuesday, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez claimed that the Trump administration and the Republican Party use racism as a cover-up for corruption, and that addressing racism is “key to understanding the hustle against working people.”
“Since corruption isn’t popular policy, racism works as the cover for the con” Ocasio-Cortez tweeted. “That’s why addressing racism isn’t a ‘distraction’ – it’s key to understanding the hustle against working people.”
“Culturally, racism is used as the unspoken cudgel against pro-working class policy,” she added, citing Trump’s “super racist immigration” policies like the “Muslim Ban” and “concentration camps.”
As has been pointed out many times, Trump never instituted any Muslim ban, nor are our border detention facilities anything comparable to concentration camps. This is pure Marxist demagoguery aimed at demonizing the right as racist, capitalist oppressors.
