At a rally in Ohio this past weekend for congressional hopeful Nina Turner, who served as the top advisor to lifelong communist Sen. Bernie Sanders in his failed presidential bid, radical Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (AOC) explicitly called for the abolishment of the carceral system.
“I want to abolish our carceral system,” AOC declared openly. The system is “designed to trap Black and Brown men,” she claimed falsely. She concluded by stating, “I want justice. I want peace. And I want prosperity.”
We all want justice, peace, and prosperity. The idea that any of that can be achieved by doing away with prisons is the kind of insanity only Marxist ideologues could dream up. What about justice for the victims of the criminals she wants to release, and the future victims she will be ensuring? How can there be peace if communities whose police she wants to defund cannot be protected from gangs and criminals who have no incentive to obey the law? How can there be prosperity where criminals flourish?
Mike Berg, a spokesman for the National Republican Congressional Committee, said in a statement, “Every vulnerable Democrat who refused to return AOC’s campaign cash should tell voters whether they agree with her proposal to abolish prisons and release convicted criminals into our communities.”
