Former President Barack Obama reportedly warned a group of freshman Democrats this week of the cost of their sweeping proposals, urging them to figure out how to pay for them.
According to The Washington Post, Obama talked about the importance of working with constituents and “staying in touch” with them, and encouraged the Dems to continue to pursue “bold” ideas, but also to focus specifically on the details of funding them.
“He said we [as Democrats] shouldn’t be afraid of big, bold ideas – but also need to think in the nitty-gritty about how those big, bold ideas will work and how you pay for them,” said one person familiar with Obama’s remarks.
