At a campaign stop in Philadelphia on Wednesday for his former VP Joe Biden, former President Barack Obama blasted President Trump as incompetent and divisive, arguing that “we need to reclaim our values.”
“That’s not normal presidential behavior,” Obama said of Trump’s combative tweeting. “Why would we accept this from the President of the United States and why are folks making excuses for that?… There are consequences to these actions. They embolden other people to be cruel and divisive and racist.”
Criticizing Trump for his response to the coronavirus, Obama claimed, “This idea that somehow this White House has done anything but completely screw this up is just not true.” He also claimed falsely that Trump inherited a strong economy and made it worse: “Just like everything else he inherited, he messed it up.”
“We need to get those values back at the center of our public life,” Obama added. What he means is, we need to abandon pro-American values and get back on track dismantling American exceptionalism.
