Obama, Clintons, Pelosi, Mfume to Speak at Cummings’ Funeral

October 24, 2019

Former Presidents Barack Obama and Bill Clinton, failed presidential candidate Hillary Clinton, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, and former National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) President Kweisi Mfume are among the Democrat leaders slated to speak at the funeral Friday of Rep. Elijah Cummings, who passed away last week at the age of 68.

The funeral service is scheduled to take place at the New Psalmist Baptist Church in his Baltimore district.

Cummings’ widow Maya Rockeymoore-Cummings, who is reportedly contemplating a run for her late-husband’s congressional seat, apparently requested that Obama speak. “He will deliver remarks about the remarkable life and legacy of one of this country’s finest public servants,” an Obama spokeswoman said in a statement.

Cummings was one of the leaders of the Democrat movement to impeach President Trump, who sparred with him recently on social media about the economic decay of Cummings’ home district.
