Sunday on Twitter, actress Rose McGowan, a brutally vocal Hollywood critic of powerful predators like disgraced former movie producer Harvey Weinstein, slammed billionaire and Democrat mega-donor Oprah Winfrey for hypocrisy, calling her “as fake as they come.”
McGowan called out Winfrey’s role as an advocate for women, citing her past friendship with Weinstein. She also referenced Winfrey’s decision to withdraw from a documentary about record producer and major Democratic supporter Russell Simmons that would have addressed the sexual assault allegations against him.
Winfrey was set to serve as executive producer of a documentary about Russell Simmons, but canceled at the last minute, reportedly because she doubted the veracity of some of the accusations against Simmons. But Vulture reported that the Time’s Up organization, founded to advocate for women, may have actually launched a whisper campaign against the documentary, prompting Winfrey to flee the project.
Regardless, McGowan is right to skewer Winfrey for protecting her powerful, predatory friends.
