During Friday’s broadcast of HBO’s Real Time, host Bill Maher lamented that day’s passing of U.S. Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg (RBG) and what it meant for politics amid the 2020 election cycle.
After announcing her passing to a chorus of shocked groans from the audience, and proclaiming Ginsburg to be “just awesome” to a chorus of applause, one of Maher’s guests fretted that Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell “has no compunctions” about “ramming” a replacement through prior to the imminent election — as if a Democrat administration would graciously delay a nomination.
Maher pointed out that her death demonstrates why a man like Donald Trump cannot be allowed to be president. “I’ve said it before on this show — power begets power,” he warned. “This is why you cannot let a guy like Trump become president.” More applause. “Because it’s not just about the presidency.”
Yes, which is also why you cannot allow someone like Barack Obama or Joe Biden or Kamala Harris to become president — because elections have consequences.
