Floundering presidential contender Kamala Harris is reportedly unveiling a bill on Wednesday that would “modernize” school hours by extending them to better coincide with the average working hours of adults.
Breitbart News reports that Harris aims to close the gap between the end of the average school day and the end of the average parents’ work day, which “leaves working parents scrambling for day-long care,” with a program that “gives money to 500 schools that serve a high proportion of low-income families to develop a school schedule that better matches the work schedule.”
“My mother raised my sister and me while working demanding, long hours,” Harris said. “So, I know firsthand that, for many working parents, juggling between school schedules and work schedule is a common cause of stress and financial hardship. But, this does not have to be the case.”
Harris vaguely proposes, in those extended hours, “high-quality, culturally relevant… academic, athletic, or enrichment opportunities for students.”
