After Sen. Rand Paul forced a vote on the Senate floor questioning the constitutionality of impeaching a former president, Sen. Tim Kaine told reporters on Monday that a second impeachment of former President Trump may “not be the right prioritization of our time” — but only because the Senate likely won’t convict.
“To do a trial knowing you’ll get 55 votes at the max seems to me to be not the right prioritization of our time,” Kaine said. “Obviously, we do a trial. Maybe we can do it fast, but my top priority is COVID relief and getting the Biden cabinet approved.”
Of course, the real reason a second impeachment “may not be the right prioritization of our time” is because it’s a massive, partisan waste of time and taxpayer money, all to satisfy the left’s bottomless, vindictive retribution against a political opponent who threatens their agenda.
Reports also suggested that Kaine and Republican Sen. Susan Collins are contemplating using the 14th Amendment to bar Trump from holding political office again.
