Jackson Lee Resigns Key Posts Over Staffer Retaliation

January 24, 2019

The New York Times reported Wednesday that Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee (D-TX) will resign from two high-profile positions after being sued for retaliation against a staffer.

Jackson reportedly will resign as chairwoman of the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation (CBCF) and temporarily step down also from her House Judiciary subcommittee chairmanship.

The unnamed staffer alleges she was raped by a CBCF intern coordinator in 2015 and was fired from her position in March 2018 after notifying Lee’s chief of staff that she intended to take legal action against the foundation. The staffer was let go several weeks later over “budgetary issues.”
