Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) rejected the Trump administration’s new sanctions against Nicolas Maduro’s socialist regime in Venezuela on Monday, claiming the country’s economic problems are caused by sanctions, not socialism.
“Trump’s new sanctions on Venezuela are nothing more than economic sabotage designed to force regime change by starving the very people we claim to be helping,” Omar tweeted on Monday. “We must lift these, & other sanctions impacting Venezuela’s poor, & support dialogue between the opposition & government.”
However, Omar does support sanctions against Israel as part of the Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions (BDS) movement.
